First we start with some acrylic underpainting, to set the tone and shape of the painting. Then we design our 'garden' with metallic foils
Then we add epoxy which can be tinted to a rainbow of choices. When combined with the brilliance of metallic foils, the depth of colour is unparalleled
You will learn so many amazing things about the medium of epoxy. How to tint it and what specific products to use. You will come away with loads of ideas about how to use it in new artistic ways and in combination with traditional mediums such as acrylics

We will use a combination of foils to create the base for these paintings. The depth you achieve in combination with tinted epoxy is like no other medium. It is the closest representation to actual Northern Lights that I have seen, and is a blast to work with
We start by laying down a full layer of holographic foil. This sets the tone for your painting either as a landscape or a vertical with or without a horizon line for a lake or a mountain range
Once we've laid down the foil we will paint in our details such as trees, mountains, silhouettes. Even if you feel that you can't paint, I can show you easy techniques that will help achieve a very realistic look. I have lots of photographs and images to select from to help you with your inspiration
Once we have added our sky blue epoxy with flashes of neon greens, turquoise and other flares of brilliant colour we might add some extra twinkle

I'm excited to share the plaster/spray paint -through-lace/stencil technique.
The basis of much of my art
We can explore the many ways to achieve depth through layers and a variety of mediums
Abstract composition, or abstract approach, it's nice to go with the flow
We'll play with techniques that are all transferrable to other mediums on or under the ever-amazing epoxy

One of my favourite things to teach because I loved learning it at Ontario College of Art. I accidentally ended up having to take an entire year of colour theory and have never looked back
Knowing how to translate all the colours that are in your head onto the physical plane is very liberating, and essential! We will use this knowledge to make the happiest rainbow of colours with our epoxy
I have been experimenting and excelling in this medium for many years and I am so excited to share everything that I know.
All that we learn in this class can carry over to many other mediums
We will also learn all about the wonderful world metallic foils. Rummage through my vast supply of intensely bright and shiny foils which are brilliant (literally) as an entire background layer or as finely applied detail
My goal as an artist is to always feel free to play and experiment. Everyone will have a different recipe for success. Included in mine are these ingredients: knowledge of materials, wide open space and the freedom from expectations and boundaries
Come on your own or bring a friend(s) All materials provided, you just bring a lunch and comfy paint clothes/shoes
We will work on a couple of smaller wood boards in a number of techniques
Let me help you visualize your ideas!!

The epoxy takes anywhere from 3 to 24 hours to cure or to be ready for foiling. So in order to achieve a special depth of colour and texture we would need about 3 separate half days to add multiple layers of flowers, grasses and colour.
This is a fun experimental stage that includes acrylic underpainting, setting the tone and layout of the painting. We then work with epoxy and foils along with other medium to create dynamic, natural textures
This stage takes place over several days, as each layer cures we add metallic foils, more colour, more flowers and grass
Mid-week dates are available upon request
any day of the week except Wednesday
You can also get your own group together, and then we can discuss possible dates
Weekends, or combinations of both are also available.
Let me know if you have some dates in mind
This class is about what you want, it's a one on one so you'll have my undivided attention. All materials included, you just bring the board you want to work on. Start looking around the house for that special blank space and let's make something really cool.
